The Power of Habit - Book review

I highly recommend this book - just finished it.
I could give you the highlights and main points, but I think, like everything, "if you really want to make a change, you will make the effort and do it". This book is inspiring and will help you get motivated to understand your bad habits and help start good ones. I tell clients all the time, I can only help you if you are ready to want help. Then it's easy from there. You've got this!

MG Hypnosis - Getting Rid of Negative Thoughts

***DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS WHILE OPERATING A MOVING VEHICLE OR WHERE YOUR FULL ATTENTION IS REQUIRED FOR SAFETY***

Getting rid of negative thoughts can be hard, but not impossible.  Like everything, the more you focus on something, the more you think about it.  So today I’d like to share with you a technique of getting rid of negative thoughts.  It’s therapeutic, AND you can also use it at end of the day to clear your mind to help you to sleep.

Remember that you have a choice in what you want to focus your energy and thoughts on.  My advice - choose the good stuff, the positive stuff, the joyful stuff, the happy stuff, the inspiring stuff, the “it’s going to make my day wonderful and it will make me smile” stuff.

Be well, happy and positive.

MG Hypnosis - Help with Isolation

Isolation isn’t a new experience for many people.  It can happen for various reasons and all ages.  Lockdown has actually been a blessing in a strange way to make people aware of this problem.  It’s horrible to think there are people who are suffering alone because other people simply cannot see the real situation.

Right now, can you think of anyone you know who would appreciate a phone call or a visit?  If yes, then make it a routine to contact them regularly.  Right now, can you think of anyone you know who would appreciate a phone call or a visit?  If yes, then make it a routine to contact them regularly.  You’ll feel better – they will feel better – everyone wins.  No longer alone.

MG Hypnosis - Help to Stop Worrying

Me to you

Don’t worry – be happy.

Easier said than done when you are worried, but wise words nevertheless and makes a good point.  You can choose to worry or NOT to worry and use it to motivate you.  We sometimes forget that we have a choice on to react to worries. I am here to remind you that you CAN choose to become stronger, calmer, and motivated to do something about the problem.

This video is about getting that focus.  Worrying is horrible for your mental and physical wellbeing.  So, stand up tall, take a deep breath, and let’s figure out a solution instead of letting it drain our energy and creativity.  You’ve got this.

MG Hypnosis - Happiness

Happiness – WOW – seems strange to have to work at finding something that should come so naturally.  However, sometimes it feels like it is just becoming harder to figure out what makes us happy.  This video contains a few ideas to help you find it again and keep it, and I also give other suggestions at the end.

Like the comedian Maranda Hart advises, “I tried to be grown up but I have no interest in abiding by the adult rulebook. I want to do fun things that make me happy [...] You might call me a child. Good. For if adults had even the slightest in-the-moment joy of a child then frankly the world would be a better place.”

And this one

“Look in the mirror and say, 'There is none other like you and for that reason alone you are beautiful.”

Doesn’t that make you happy?

Brilliant Company to work with - make sure you love your work - IMPORTANT MESSAGE

Bodies Under Construction (the clinic I work from) is in the festive mood AND our amazing director, Leslie Abrahams and his wife Teryl, sent me a naughty box of Bad Brownies (and I've even been good) 😂😃 THANK YOU!!! You have made my day brighter, happier and joyful.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE - loving your work and who you work for is so important to your mental and physical wellbeing. Remember, you spend a lot of your day doing your job and if it's not right for you anymore - leave. If you hate your workplace but like your work - find a new company. If your chosen career isn't what you thought it was going to be like - start retraining (it doesn't matter how much time or money you have spent on it - ask yourself if you really want to be investing any more of your lifetime doing it). A quality life is more important in the long run.

Do not be afraid of change. Do not be afraid of mistakes. Both are wonderful if they help lead you to your happiness and a fulfilling life. You, and those who are close to you, will benefit.

3rd and final BIG EVENT POST - Cancer

My mom’s cancer has returned.  This time it is different, in that they can’t offer any treatment to her due to her lack of strength and where it has spread.

We try to stay positive under the circumstances but she has had a month of “one set back after the other”.  You wouldn’t even believe me if I were to recount it all, but the significant set-back was a fall due to the medication she was first given that made her unsteady. She broke a rib and hurt her spine.

It is important to keep her spirits up, but your own as well.  I suggest the following to help keep your head in a good place.

·     Ask people to pray and send good thoughts to her.
·     Pray or ask the universe to send healing to her and yourself.
·     Light a candle and think of your best memories together.
·     Light a candle at your church and have 15 minutes of quiet time.
·     Go for a walk to be surrounded by air and light.
·     Listen to happy music.
·     Watch funny films.
·     Never give up hope and know that you are stronger than you think.

Best wishes to all and I hope we kick cancers butt soon.

Peace

2nd of 3 BIG EVENTS POST - Kitchen Extension

The second big event was a kitchen extension, which I have wanted to do for the last 10 years.  I was always frightened by the cost and disruption.  Part of it was practical, and part was my own fearful imagination about, “how am I going to cope with no kitchen, the expense, and all the chaos?!”.

One of my mentors for hypnotherapy asked me, “How did you manage to get through other difficult times in your life?”.  The answer is simple, and applies to all of us, “I just found a way and did it”.  You will always find a way and sometimes it is our own determination, and other times, it is with the help of others.  Anyway, I did manage it and I had lots of supporters.

My builder was excellent.  Not only in his work, but payment schedule.  Barclay’s “lost” a transfer of money from my US account to help pay for it, and even though I had savings to draw on, the money was missing for 6 weeks! I kept my builder informed, and he really wasn’t bothered as he could see that I was doing everything possible to get Barclays to find my missing money (which is now with the Financial Ombudsman, and it finally arrived in the final week of the works finishing.

My neighbours helped us out with using their washing machines (can you imagine to have the privilege to live on a street where I was able to take my laundry to 7 different houses in rotation – plus one neighbour went on holiday for a week and gave me the keys to their house.  AND the other nice thing is I had offers from another 5 neighbours!).  They didn’t just let me use their machines – they folded the laundry when it was finished.

Besides doing laundry, we were offered meals.  We had several Sunday lunches at friends and neighbours houses.  We are truly blessed.

So, don’t be afraid of the challenge.  You will always find a way.  I promise.

1st of 3 BIG EVENTS POST – The fall

1st of 3 BIG EVENTS POST – The fall

Sorry for my lack of personal posts. I have had a lot going on - 3 big events. Listing one post a day so it’s not a huge long post, and each has a lesson.

NUMBER 1.  About 6 months ago I fractured my foot by a freak trip up a curb. To someone who walked 15-20,000 steps a day, it was a big deal. I had 2 weeks pretty much in bed, and was just about able to walk in a support boot and crutches, but no more then 4 blocks at a time.

I had several NHS appointments to see how badly I had fractured the tendon and the nerve.  It was an experience to actually get to hear my nerve grow!! They put an acupuncture needle in your leg, and you can actually hear the nerve grow (silence means it is a normal nerve).  So apparently it will take another month for the nerve to head down my leg to my big toe. At least I am now on the mend and am so thankful to Bhavini and Aiden, from Bodies Under Construction, for their amazing physio skills to helping me with rehab.  I am now almost back to 100% and for the first time today – I managed to run for 6 minutes!  YEAH!!

However, the hardest part of the fracture was not the physical pain, it was the mental depression.  Not being able to get outside for exercise, do my normal routine, and see clients really took a toll on my mental wellbeing.  I felt so down, and even though I could do work over Skype and some social media, not getting out and being able to exercise began to make me feel lonely and depressed.  I knew I had to take action mentally to get me into a better state.

I began to break down the day into activities such as 30 minutes just doing gentle stretching, 30 minutes bath (including massaging my foot), 30 minutes reading positive books (like Laws of Attraction), a few hours work, 1 hour watching feel good YouTube clips about “spending it forward” and “acts of kindness”, 45 minutes eating a healthy lunch slowly and watching the news, watching a funny or classic movie, and ending the day again with gentle stretching with a scented candle - of course.  It started to help vs. being frustrated and depressed.  Once I had a plan, I started to feel better.

I read the book Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine.  It was ironic as the book is about a lonely woman.  The author, Gail Honeyman, wrote the book after reading a newspaper story about a woman in her 30’s that never saw people from the time she left work on Friday night until Monday morning.   We only think of the elderly as suffering from isolation and loneliness.  You need to make a plan if you are living with depression, fear, loneliness, anxiety, etc.  Little steps will lead to bigger ones and slowly feeling better and better and better.

The other lovely lesson I learnt was to try the “acts of kindness” for myself to others.  I went to Sainsbury’s, bought a dozen yellow roses, and passed them out on my way home. Every one of the 12 people I gave a rose to brightened their day and mine!  One man even said, “I feel like I have just been knighted”.  Also one woman I gave a rose to was so thankful and happy that the women at the table next to her clapped, so I gave one to her too, and those 2 women I am sure were still talking to each other long after I left.

So don’t let things get you down – get a plan.

5 tips to bring more Positive Energy into your life

ATTRACTING POSITIVE ENERGY

THIS SHOULDN’T BE HARD, BUT YET, IT SEEMS SOME PEOPLE STRUGGLE WITH BEING POSITIVE.

SO TRY THESE 5 TIPS OUT THIS WEEK AND SEE IF IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE TO YOUR POSITIVE ENERGY.

1.        WHEN YOU WAKE UP, BEFORE YOU GET UP, SAY TO YOURSELF 10 TIMES, “I AM GOING TO HAVE AN AMAZING DAY” AND SMILE AS YOU SAY IT. COUNT OUT WITH YOUR FINGERS.
2.        ONCE EVERY HOUR DURING YOUR WORKING HOURS, STOP AND BREATH 6 TIMES – IF YOU CAN DO THIS OUTSIDE – EVEN BETTER.  AND SAY, I FEEL GREAT!
3.        ON YOUR COMMUTE TO AND FROM WORK, SAY 10 THINGS YOU GRATEFUL FOR:
-         THANK YOU FOR MY JOB (IF YOU DON’T LIKE YOUR JOB, FOR THE SALARY),
-         FOR MY HEALTH – IF YOU HAVE A COLD, AT LEAST YOU DON’T HAVE CANCER – I AM TRYING TO GET YOU TO KEEP IT IN PERSPECTIVE.
-         FOR FAMILY, FRIENDS, FOOD, WATER, A HOME, BEING ABLE TO READ, MUSIC, EXERCISE, SPOUSE/PARTNER, CHILDREN, ANIMALS, BREATHING, MEDITATION, LEARNING - anything no matter what or how small   SOMETIMES I REPEAT MY LISTS - BUT THAT CAN BE RELATED TO SOMETHING ELSE THAT HAPPENED OR I AM JUST SUPER GRATEFUL FOR THE PERSON, PLACE OR THING I AM MENTIONING.
4.        ASK FOR POSITIVE ENERGY.  DEPENDING ON YOUR BELIEVES, ASK GOD, OR THE UNIVERSE, OR THE INTERNET TO SEND YOU GOOD VIBES.  REALLY ASK FOR IT.
5.        KEEP LOOKING FOR POSITIVE THINGS IN EVERYTHING! NEVER GIVE UP LOOKING FOR HAPPINESS.  TOUGH TIMES DON’T LAST.  SO KEEP LOOKING AND EXPLORING AND LEARNING ABOUT THINGS THAT MAKE YOU HAPPY.  THINGS THAT BRING GOODNESS AND POSITIVE ENERGY INTO YOUR LIFE.  IT MIGHT TAKE A SOME EXPLORING, BUT YOU WILL FIND IT AS LONG AS YOU WANT IT.

LASTLY, IF YOU KNOW SOMETHING IS DRAINING YOU OF YOUR POSITIVE ENERGY OR HAPPINESS, FIGURE OUT HOW TO SOLVE IT AND STOP IT, THERE WILL BE A SOLUTION BUT YOU NEED TO ADDRESS IT AND FIX IT.

Positive thinking course follow up

The next two positive thinking course days were focused on gratitude and mind training.

Gratitude

Gratitude is a simple way to end your day and start your day in a positive frame of mind.   Every day we should find 10 new things that we are grateful for in our lives.  This can be a combination of a million things like people, experiences, tastes, nature, health, the sun, the moon and the stars, literally anything.

Gratitude also heightens our awareness of what is most important to us.  You might be grateful for material things, but it also might make you aware of those material things which you no longer use or care about, which in turn, is taking up space and energy.  It might be time for a clear out of "stuff".

Mind training

Mind training is harder as we have to stop and think about how often we are negative about ourselves and others, but to make the effort to change the record playing in our heads.  We are learning to train ourselves to think more positively.  It is a simple, stop, think, react in a better way.  Sometimes it takes great patience and time to do that.  All the great spiritual teachers of the world tell us the same thing.

Use You Tube to find videos on positive thinking. We will be doing more recording ourselves before the end of summer this year.  Be on the look out.

Is there life after death? Proof of Heaven

Just read this book called Proof of Heaven by Dr. Eben Alexander. It is his personal story about a near death experience and his description on meeting God and being in "heaven".
When I read a book like this I keep an open mind. I don't know what I believe is true when I read the book, but I do know I believe in a higher spirit. I believe in good karma. I believe in love, gratitude, and empathy.
When faced with uncertainty I do pray for help. When friends and family are sick, I pray for their health. When we can't explain why things happen, I choose to look for the most positive thing to take away from it.
You may not believe in any of the above, but at the end of the day, I choose to want to think there is more that awaits us after death and we should not fear it. We should all want to enjoy the thought that life goes on, even after death. Then we would fear growing older less and enjoy those years. Just my view. Marygrace
